Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is an opportunity for children to find new ways of expressing their emotions and communicating the issues they face in an open and non-judgmental environment. This offers the right atmosphere to begin addressing their problems and building their self-esteem.
Child therapy is a way of helping a child or young person make sense of angry, painful, sad or confusing thoughts and feelings. A creative psychotherapist is trained to work with children and young people of all ages through drama, play, movement, drawing and talking about events and experiences. This offers an opportunity for a young person to learn the means which allow them to safely explore their needs.
Child Psychotherapy doesn’t mean that there is something wrong with your child. It simply means that at present-time they can benefit from some support and having a space to reflect on a current issue. It’s a space for your child to express their feelings in a supportive and safe environment.
When working with younger children I work closely with parents and families, if appropriate, joint parent-child sessions are offered, following an initial assessment. Psychotherapy sessions are confidential unless the child is at risk or other children might be at risk.
