Adolescent Psychotherapy
Each developmental stage brings specific challenges. While adolescence is a natural part of growing up, it can sometimes leave a young person confused and lonely, struggling to communicate their inner turmoil.
Every young individual reacts differently toward life and its challenges. As they navigate this critical phase of development, they might wrestle with a rollercoaster of feelings, from the trouble of peer relationships to the unsettling feelings of anxiety, fear, anger, and loneliness. Some adolescents may struggle with identity questions, having a hard time figuring out who they are. They might be dealing with things like self-harm and substance abuse or feel overwhelmed by societal expectations.
These experiences can leave lasting emotional wounds. However, an adolescent may struggle to confide in people they know due to concerns about potential consequences or fear of causing harm by sharing their feelings. Having someone to talk to confidentially can be extremely helpful in these circumstances.
How can adolescent psychotherapy help?
This is where the confidential and supportive environment of psychotherapy steps in. Adolescent psychotherapy provides a secure environment for young people to talk about their worries and feelings. It helps them understand and cope with the challenges they face during this stage of life, such as:
- Bereavement
- Changes in family circumstances
- Internet addiction
- Bullying
- Social media anxiety
- Self-harm
- Eating disorders
- Physical or sexual abuse
- Parental separation or divorce
- Moving to a new place or attending a new school
- Domestic violence
Each 50-minute session, held consistently every week, is a step toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. While the confidentiality of each session remains intact, I am happy to discuss general themes with parents or caregivers and answer any questions parents might have about their child or therapy.
